Planning a Minecraft Village With Viewers

In my tutorial Let’s Play series, Minecraft School, I am entering the village building phase. I’ve had a couple main phases in the series already: Starter Base and Main Base. Next is the village phase, and we’ll add in a dragon fight sometime during this phase. But building a village involves, well, a lot of building. And for this stage, I am looking for a lot of viewer input. What would my viewers want to see me build?

Below is a map of the area. I’ve numbered the buildings I have absolutely no plans for yet. I’m going to tackle one or two buildings per video so that I can finish off the village by the time 1.18 is out. I want to finish this series in a timely manner. Each video is going to become focused on one build each. In many of my recent videos, I’ve been focusing on some larger projects that are fairly simple, but rather time consuming. Since this series is mainly for beginners, I don’t want to make these builds too complex. But here is the map.

In the comments below, let me know what I should build in each spot. I’m pretty sure I’ll get a lot more interaction on Twitter, Discord, and YouTube for this, as this blog is not very well-known or publicized, but if you happen to read this, let me know!

One of my favourite things to do is plan. I like to make plans for things, whether it be maps or writing lists. I started out my third video by saying that after finishing my first build, I would be planning the village. And that’s what I did.

This third episode of The World of the Nether Walker features my first complete build (the mine entrance) and exactly what I planned on doing for the first part of the series. The build itself showed an example of mistakes and some things that I didn’t like too much about the build itself. But every Minecraft YouTuber goes through this. Looking back at this video, I would do the roof a bit differently, doubling the thickness of the edge of the roofline. That would have solved my issue with the log, and would have made the roof look less flimsy. The good thing is, I can always go back to this village and make some changes (I actually have, but just inside the houses).

Take a few minutes and watch the video below.

This video marks the next video I was going to redo the thumbnail in the summer, but never got around to it. So, I did it about half an hour ago. The original thumbnail includes the episode number, while the new one does not. It uses the same screenshot, but I tweaked the saturation, brightness, and contrast to bring out the colours.

The original thumbnail has the awful frame around it, as well as some rather dull colours.
In the new version, I’ve zoomed in a bit more, and brightened up the colours. I think it looks better.

One of the issues with some of my earlier videos is that my screenshots were not the greatest. I can’t just go back into the world and redo the screenshot, because everything’s been built. Since this time, I’ve learned that adjusting my field of view (FOV) to 50% provides a much better perspective than the usual 70% I play with.

This video also has a question for my viewers. I asked what I should name the village. It turned out that I would take a Greek theme for this first season, not in terms of architecture, but just the names of the places.

And that’s where I will leave this off. Let me know what you think of this video and the changes in the thumbnails. Also, would you have planned this village differently? Let me know in the comments below!
